Aquest estiu LO CLUB DE LECTURA hem fet una sortida a la VALL D'ÀSSUA, a la recerca de les VEUS DEL PAMANO.

 

A Reading Club

Because of my English studies I had to write a text about a topic and I had chosen to talk about a personal and nice experience, ‘Lo club de lectura’, this is how we called the reading club I belong to.

I’ve accepted Joma’s suggestion and here you are! This is what I’d written.


Two years ago I got involved in a reading club. An old friend invited me to join a small ‘reading club’ that had been created recently. It was a really new and good experience for me from the very beginning; this is the reason I’m going to talk about this and I’m going to do it from my personal experience.

If you search the internet for ‘reading club’, in English better known as a ‘book group’, you will find that’s a group of people who meet to discuss a book that they have read and express their opinions, likes, dislikes, reflections and so on.

For me it’s more than this. It’s an appointment that every month (more or less) I look forward to, to talk not only about the book we have read, but also to spend a nice time chatting about books, culture, music and life around us, in a comfortable atmosphere, holding a book in our hands, having a snack, a drink in front of a lighted fireplace in winter and sometimes when nights are warmer under the summer skies.

What do I think people can gain being a member of a book group?
From my personal experience I believe there are lots of positives aspects:

• First of all, you’re probably going to read more (this is what has happened to me). You’ll try to find time to read because you want to go to the club with the ‘homework’ done, so you can share your points of view.
• Probably you’re going to read some books that on your own, maybe you wouldn’t have chosen, so in the same way you’ve got the chance to expand your literary tastes.
• You can enjoy more the readings, because if you like the book, talking about it is a way of going back on its pages, reread and relish the book.
• You’ll go deeper in the book, story, characters, the way how the story is composed, its language… listening and sharing the other people’s opinions. At the same time you can clarify, with the help of people’s ideas, some parts of the book not very clear for you.
• Probably you’ll discover and know more about other books and authors that arise in the conversations between the people in the group.
• The stories, characters, backgrounds… in the books are an opened window to different people’s realities, ideas, thoughts. Talking about that, you can get to know different ways of understanding life and at the same time you are more aware of your own ideas in contrast.

A part from these benefits as readers that share a book, there are others as a member of a club. To be part of a group means to meet different people, to get involved in a specific dynamic and even to plan and carry out activities to enjoy. And the most important thing, it gives the chance to share part of our lives.

CONEIX JAMES SALTER

"Vaig decidir escriure o morir. Va ser com començar la vida des de zero."

En aquest vídeo, l'escriptor nord-americà James Salter (Nova York, 1925), autor de L'ÚLTIMA NIT (2014, L'Altra Editorial), parla sobre la inoblidable experiència de deixar la seva carrera com a pilot a la meitat de la trentena per ser escriptor: "De cop sents que tens un parell d'ales i pots escriure coses que et semblen glorioses."

Lectures de tardor 2014

Aquesta vegada hem recollit en un sol post els darrers llibres que hem llegit, així tot queda més endreçadet (he, he, he).

Després de la intensitat bestial d'Ànima, vam triar una història més senzilla i amable. Amb Tres vegades a l'alba, d'Alessandro Baricco, l'autor de Seda, vam repetir amb l'editorial La Magrana, que va publicar aquella altra joia de novel·la breu titulada El pati maleït. En aquest cas són tres històries en bona part dialogades, escrites en un estil planer que tan aviat és directe com indirecte. La Josefina ens va fer fixar com de bé encaixaven les històries, encara que no ho semblés a primer cop d'ull. Tal com es diu al començament:
"Aquestes pàgines expliquen una història que, tot i ser versemblant, mai no podria esdevenir-se a la realitat. Parla de dos personatges que es troben tres vegades, però cada vegada és l'única, i la primera, i l'última. Ho poden fer perquè viuen en un Temps anòmal que seria inútil cercar dins l'experiència quotidiana. Un temps que, de tant en tant, les narracions tenen el privilegi de construir."

A l'octubre, la Montse va proposar un dels llibres que més ressò van trobar en la rentrée literària, En la pell de l'altre, de la benvolguda Maria Barbal. Una història de suplantament d'identitats que semblaria inverosímil, si no fos que parteix de casos similars que han protagonitzat personatges reals de la societat catalana.
Com que la M. Àngels no va tenir temps d'acabar-se'l, la vam animar a continuar-ne la lectura després de la trobada, amb missatges de Watsapp com els següents: "Mala bruixa la Ramona! Pobre Joan, cornut i paga el beure..." "Aquesta [la Mireia] una bleda assolellada que fa cas del primer carallot que se li posa davant, i l'altre [el Manuel] deu ser fill del Montoro o del Wert!"

Al novembre, coincidint amb l'època de l'any en què transcorre la història, vam llegir La sergent Anna Grimm, per cortesia de Pagès Editors, que ens en va fer un bon preu. La Montse coneix l'autora i va anar a una de les presentacions del llibre. És una novel·la policíaca amb tots els ingredients del gènere i una bona trama. Tot i que és de lectura ràpida i amena, ni la Josefina ni el Joma no se'l van llegir a temps, per la qual cosa van rebre les corresponents amonestacions.
El més destacable, però, és que durant la lectura d'aquest llibre se'ns ha unit un nou membre al club, la Neus. El Joan va passar un moment a saludar-nos i ens va fer la foto perquè quedés constància de la novetat. Benvinguda, Neus!
